Empowering Students to Become Leaders and Agents of Positive Change
At Musawo Betty Care and Research Centre (MBCRC), we recognize that young people are powerful advocates for positive change within their schools and communities. Our School Peer Education Programme is designed to equip selected students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to educate, mentor, and support their fellow learners.
Through comprehensive training, peer educators become trusted sources of accurate information and positive role models who promote healthy behaviours and informed decision-making among their peers.
Our Approach
MBCRC trains student peer educators on key issues affecting adolescents and young people, including:
• Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)
• Mental health and psychosocial well-being
• Menstrual hygiene management
• Prevention of teenage pregnancy
• HIV and STI prevention
• Drug and substance abuse prevention
• Financial literacy and saving culture
• Leadership, communication, and life skills
The 1-to-10 Peer Education Model
Our programme follows a sustainable "Train One, Reach Ten" approach. Every peer educator trained by MBCRC is expected to mentor and educate at least ten fellow students within their school. These sessions may be conducted through peer discussions, school clubs, classroom talks, group meetings, and awareness campaigns.
This model ensures that knowledge continues to spread beyond the initial training, creating a multiplier effect that reaches many more learners and strengthens a culture of peer support and responsible decision-making.
Expected Outcomes
Through this programme, schools benefit from:

• Reduced misinformation and harmful myths among students.
