From a promise made at 19 — Our journey.

How a personal vow became a multidisciplinary sexual and reproductive health centre serving Wakiso District.

  1. 1990s

    The seeds of hope

From personal adversity emerged a beacon of change. At 19, Betty Najjuuko became a teenage mother — pregnant with twins, terrified and without support. From the shame and silence of that moment, she made a promise: if she survived, no young person should ever feel that alone again.

  2. 2020s

    Training and preparation

Betty trained as a midwife, a social worker, and in public health — building the knowledge that would underpin a multidisciplinary model bringing midwives, teachers and psychologists around the adolescent.

  3. December 2023

    MBCRC opens its doors

Musawo Betty Care and Research Centre launches in Nsangi, Wakiso District. From the start, the centre brings teenagers, parents, midwives, teachers and psychologists into one structured Shaping Futures workshop format.

  4. 2026 →

    Sharing the model internationally

MBCRC presents Shaping Futures at the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon (June 2026). Delegates leave with an Adaptation Canvas and a complete toolkit so they can replicate the model in their own countries.
